The Australian Cobberdog is a breed in development, recognised by the Master Dog Breeders & Associates (MDBA). Australian Cobberdogs originated from here in Australia, therefore the registration process starts in Australia.
All Australian Cobberdog’s are registered with the MDBA as a pure breed and has a unique breed standard and a stud registry of parentage, even after desexing. We need to keep control, for the breed to move forward.
The Australian Cobberdog is a PURE BREED recognised by the MDBA (Master Dog Breeders and Associates) since 2012, and has its own DNA sequence. The MDBA is also the institution responsible for ensuring correct breeding procedures to guarantee quality of life for future generations of the breed, through good breeder practices, whose breeding criteria must be that the puppies have a good personality and be in good health. Only MDBA breeders have the legitimacy to guarantee that their dogs are purebred Australian Cobberdogs. In turn, this guarantees the quality of the dogs.

These family dogs, even though the breed was developed to get the optimum characteristics needed in order to be excellent at doing their work as therapy and assistance dogs. They are the ideal dog with the right amount of energy to serve as assistance dogs. They are very intelligent and quickly learn how to do their work. Hypoallergenic, and low shedding (if at all). They also show great sensitivity to children and seniors.

Long haired dogs often grow hair deep within the ear canal. This excess hair can increase the heat and reduce airflow. Our dogs love water and swimming, being on a property with a dam it is imperative we keep the ears as hair free as possible so they dry quickly. We have found the best way to do this is with BLUNT scissors, and trim the hair close to the skin. We prefer to trim over plucking as research has shown that plucking can cause micro tears in the skin. Use clippers to clip the underneath flap to create additional air flow. Once de-haired use a good quality ear cleaner once per fortnight. Kooeekeis Australian Cobberdogs use Blackmores Gentle Ear Cleaner.
Regular nail clipping and grinding will ensure the nail doesn’t grow too long which can cause pain. After we trim nails we use a grinder to smooth the edges. After clipping we use a very small electric clipper and trim excess hair from between each paw pad. We lift the top layer of the hair that hangs down each foot, then trim the hair under and replace long hair over the top.
No other breed like the Australian Cobberdog with better features to be an exemplary therapy or assistance dog exists. The breed was specifically conceived to be hypoallergenic and have the best temperament for this work.
Their easy trainability makes them ideal for people looking for the ultimate therapy or assistance dog for people who suffer from
dog-related allergies. We cannot promise that you will not have an allergy to them as some people are allergic to the protein in the dog’s saliva.
Australian Cobberdogs have a high level of intuition and the ability to “read” their humans making them perfect for homes with children with developmental disabilities or emotional health challenges. They seek eye contact and look deeply into your eyes rather than “at” you.
