Guardian Program

About our Guardian Home

 Program

We believe each of our breeding dogs deserves their own loving family and home over the course of their breeding careers with KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs. In our Guardian Home program, the guardian family will raise and train a dog throughout its breeding career, and then when he/she retires, they will remain your beloved family pet! If you’re interested in participating in our Guardian Home Program, the information below is curated to help you determine if you’d be a good match.

Occasionally we offer some of our breeding bitches and dogs to guardian homes. A dog that is placed in a guardian home is a pick of the litter. We will pay for the entire health testing and other costs related to breeding. We require that the female dog has 2 litters with us and if a male he will breed until 6 years of age. When we are finished breeding with them for
Whatever reason, you pay to have him/her desexed. A bitch would come to our house 7 days before her due date and would remain at our house for 8 weeks after the puppies are born. A male would only need to be made available when a female was in heat or taken to the vet for semen collection.

Benefits Of Guardian Homes

You receive a pick of the litter puppy for less then what you would pay if you bought as a pet home. For a puppy the cost would be $1200. Instead of us disrupting this dogs family life once they are done breeding they get to remain in the family they have always known and love.

Once we are finished breeding with the dog or decide for whatever reason not to use the dog in our breeding program, you will pay for desexing. Upon receipt of a copy of the invoice from the vet who performed the procedure, we will transfer full ownership to you.

How it works

Guardian Process

For A Female Dog

she will visit us throughout the year to make sure she is familiar with our family, to be tested, and to breed with a male dog. On occasion we may request you take her to our preferred vet; The Pet Practice, 3/1083 Albany Highway, St James, WA 6102. for artificial insemination procedures. This will require a few visits when she is in season to determine her progesterone levels.

She will also need to stay with us 1 week before her litter is due and until the puppies are weaned at approximately 8 weeks. Afterwards, she will return to your home and reconnect with the family she knows and loves. A guardian female will have no more than two litters over the course of her breeding career, and we will cover all costs associated with breeding, birthing, and raising her puppies.

Upon retirement of her breeding days, the guardian family pay to have her desexed. Once we receive a copy of the invoice from the Veterinarian, we will transfer full ownership of your beloved dog to you.

For A Male Dog

we will need him home with us for an approved mating. At times we may request you take him to our preferred vet, The Pet Practice, 3/1083 Albany Highway, St James, WA 6102 for semen collection and/or reproductive related veterinary appointments. Upon retirement of her breeding days, the guardian family pay to have him desexed. Once we receive a copy of the invoice from the Veterinarian, we will transfer full ownership of your beloved dog to you.

If you can commit to the conditions above and would like to learn more about our KooeeKeis Guardian Home Program, please complete our Guardian Home Program Application, and submit, and we will assess your application and get back to you.

How To Qualify To Be A

Guardian Home

We require you to live within 1 hours of our home (York, Western Australia).

You need to be willing to maintain regular veterinarian schedule

You need to keep the dog out of contact with intact dogs of the opposite sex

You need to have a safe yard for the dog to play in

You need to maintain a healthy food regimen and have our dogs. We prefer you to be familiar with Bones And Raw Feeding (BARF)

You need to make the dog available during her heat cycle if female, or when we have a female coming into heat for a male.

If something should happen to the dog due to your negligence before ownership is transferred, you will be required to cover a portion of the replacement cost of the dog in the amount of up to $5,000 depending on the guardian dog. This would not even begin to cover the actual replacement cost of one of our breeding dogs. We just want to ensure that families are taking good care of our dogs.

Breeder pays for all expenses to do with breeding, hip and elbow scoring, and DNA testing. Guardian families are responsible for the usual ongoing costs of keeping a pet dog, including vaccinations and worming, food, tick and flea prevention, grooming and general vet bills, council registration, and obedience classes.

You must be prepared to provide a loving, caring home, where the dog is welcome inside the house and is considered part of the family. There must be somebody home for a good amount of time each week so the dog is not left alone for extended periods.
